Our councils

Our councils are strategic arenas for discussions, prioritisation and, in some cases, decisions on the financing of joint research initiatives through research programmes and projects. The council identifies and drives development forward for the benefit of the participating companies and their customers and other stakeholders, for Energiforsk and for the Swedish energy sector as a whole. The council has a clear plan for its work, which is also an important tool in Energiforsk's daily work, but has no financial responsibility.

Thermal energy conversion

This area mainly covers the improvement and development of fuel-based facilities for electricity and heat production. The programmes and projects conducted are intended to contribute to a flexible, environmentally friendly and cost-effective energy system. The results and new knowledge will benefit both existing and future facilities.

Nuclear power

We conduct research to contribute to the safe and cost-effective operation of existing nuclear power plants in the Nordic energy system. The research programmes work to solve technical challenges, increase knowledge about various ageing phenomena, and help to ensure national expertise in the field of nuclear power. The board for the nuclear power portfolio consists of:

  • Henric Lidberg, Vattenfall, Chairman

  • Anne Kontula, TVO

  • Sara Nilsson, Fortum.

  • Mats Yngvesson, Uniper

  • Morgan Lindqvist, OKG

  • Ted Lind, Energiföretagen

  • Area manager at Energiforsk Karin Westling.

Hydropower

Energiforsk creates new knowledge and expertise to further develop hydropower. The working method is to build and disseminate knowledge through collaboration. The overall goal of our activities is to ensure that hydropower in Sweden continues to develop in order to secure its unique role as our most important renewable source of electricity and our most important resource for balancing the power system. Our activities shall contribute to safe, efficient and profitable hydropower as part of a sustainable energy system.

Electricity grids, wind power and solar power

This area covers research and development relating to electricity grids and renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar power. Projects are conducted in the fields of digitalisation, maintenance, and risk and reliability analysis. In the field of wind power and solar power, we conduct research into both the respective energy sources and how they can be effectively connected to the electricity grid. The goal is a robust, environmentally friendly and cost-effective energy system that benefits the energy industry and society as a whole. We also have projects in standardisation, environment and sustainability, as well as CIGRE, and collaborate with other research areas in Energiforsk. The council consists of:

  • Stephan Stålered, Ellevio, Chairman
