Our history
Värmeforsk was founded as the Foundation for Thermal Engineering Research in 1968, Svenskt Gastekniskt Center AB was founded in 1990, Elforsk, the Swedish electricity companies' research and development company, was founded in 1993, and the Fjärrsyn research programme was launched in 2006 within the industry organisation Svensk Fjärrvärme, now Energiföretagen Sverige.
Until the merger in 2015, the various research activities had published 2,846 final reports containing new and valuable knowledge for energy companies and their customers. We were there when:
House heating switched from oil to electricity, district heating, heat pumps and passive houses
Waste has become an energy resource and business opportunity in municipal combined heat and power plants
Biogas has begun to be utilised and, from being a marginal phenomenon, has become a main alternative fuel for buses in regular service
Wind power has become a power source to be reckoned with
Environmental issues surrounding hydropower began to be taken seriously
The power system became Europeanised
And as a unified Energiforsk, we continue to be at the centre of events in the energy field, with the goal of becoming the hub of Swedish energy research.
