| 2017:456 | Anders Alanärä, Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet, SLU
The sea survival of compensatory reared Atlantic salmon smolt have decreased over the last 15 years in relation to wild salmon smolt. During the same period of time, the body size of hatchery smolt have strongly increased and deviates largely from wild smolt in terms of size and energetic status.

The purpose with this project was to produce a physiologically wild like hatchery reared salmon smolt and to evaluate the effect on sea survival. A physiologically wild like smolt was considered to be about 50 g in size and with body fat content of about 4 %. Hatchery reared one- year old smolt was included in the study because the proportion of one year old smolt have increased dramatically over the last 15 years within the releases from Swedish compensatory rearing programs.
