Bio-CCS for District Heating

This project aimed to strengthen the conditions for reducing emissions and creating negative emissions in Sweden, through knowledge, exchange of experience, and in-depth collaboration between stakeholders.
The project's target group was primarily stakeholders in the district heating and waste industries, but also authorities, the Government Offices, and politicians. The project's results also benefited others, including industries, logistics companies, and other organisations working with CCS.
Between 2020 and 2021, the first phase of the project was carried out. In this work, 17 companies and organisations in the district heating and waste sectors developed a joint strategy for how district heating can contribute to negative emissions by 2045. The new phase of the project was built on this roadmap and aimed to move from planning to concrete preparations for implementation. The focus was on developing knowledge and cooperation on the capture and storage of carbon dioxide from the combustion of biofuels and waste. The work included analyses of technical and economic conditions, as well as opportunities for collaboration with industrial and logistics companies – particularly on issues relating to transport and storage infrastructure.
Below you will find all the reports from the first phase of the project, as well as the 2025 report produced during the second phase of the project.
