Nepp

Nepp’s research spans the entire energy system – from production, transmission, and distribution to consumption and market dynamics. It includes all energy sources, with particular emphasis on electricity, district heating, and gas. Researchers collaborate closely with experts from the energy sector and industry.
Launched at the turn of the millennium, Nepp has actively contributed to the development of Sweden’s energy system. It has provided input to several government inquiries, the national energy commission, the electricity sector’s roadmap for fossil-free competitiveness (Fossil-Free Sweden), and various projects within the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA).
The overarching goal of Nepp is to support the development of a robust, sustainable, and competitive energy system and help Sweden meet both national and EU climate targets.
Researchers from various universities and research firms are engaged to conduct studies based on identified societal challenges.
A Meeting Place for Participants
For participating organizations and their employees, NEPP also serves as a forum for energy system discussions. Funders and researchers are invited several times a year to participate in steering group meetings, working groups, and workshops—offering opportunities to contribute, influence the program, and access upcoming results.
Objectives
Increase knowledge of short- and long-term energy system development.
Provide input for energy policy decisions nationally and internationally.
Support investment decisions for energy companies and industry.
Strengthen research collaboration and knowledge exchange across Sweden, the Nordics, and Europe.
