Blockchain in practice: From fundamentals to traceability and data integrity in safety-critical systems

This webinar is arranged by Energiforsks programme Digitalisation in Nuclear Power. The program aims to strengthen the members internal understanding of modern digital technologies that may influence future ways of working within the nuclear power industry.
The webinar will have two parts:
It will start with a clear and intuitive explanation of core blockchain concepts, including how data is structured, validated, and secured using mechanisms such as hashing and consensus. The session also covers key differences between public and private blockchains, as well as important limitations related to scalability, performance, and system integration.
The second part of the webinar moves from theory to practice through a concrete use case inspired by digital product passports and traceability in safety‑critical environments. Using an example related to nuclear fuel and component lifecycle tracking, the session illustrates how blockchain technology can support data integrity, transparency, and traceability across multiple organisations.
The webinar will offer a balanced overview of both the opportunities and challenges of using blockchain in highly regulated industries and concludes with time for questions and discussion.
