How cybersecurity affects the daily operation and resilience of hydropower

Digitalisation, cloud connectivity, data platforms and AI are creating new opportunities for the hydropower sector. At the same time, increasing connectivity raises important questions about cybersecurity, resilience and control over critical infrastructure.

In this webinar, Michael Mwera, Senior Solutions Architect at Fortum Hydro, and Håkon Olsen, Department Manager, Digital Security, at engineering consultancy TÜV Rheinland Safetec, will share practical experiences and lessons learned in secure digitalisation and operational technology (OT) security in critical infrastructure.

Michael Mwera will provide a practical “day in the life” approach, highlighting the decisions organisations face when connecting operational systems to cloud services, suppliers, analytics solutions and AI capabilities. Topics will include operational resilience, supplier access, governance of operational data, IT/OT integration, and the balance between innovation, security and resilience.

Håkon Olsen will focus on threats organisations need to protect against and how cyber incidents can affect safety, availability and operations. Drawing on lessons learned from risk assessments and OT architecture planning, he will address cyber threats that could have safety-critical consequences, secure integration of connected OT environments, modern approaches to remote access, and how security principles such as IEC 62443 can be applied in practice.
