The impact of EU balancing rules on the electricity market

According to a new report from Energiforsk’s FemD programme, a combination of the transition to ACE based balancing – where balancing is primarily guided by the aggregated measure of a control area’s actual real time imbalance – and congestion between Swedish bidding zones has meant that even relatively small imbalances have quickly resulted in very high imbalance prices.
