Uses for big data in the Nordic nuclear power plants

Based on an overview of current and future big data applications in Nordic nuclear power plants, a new report concludes that organisations shouldn’t aim for a single platform for big data management, but instead build flexible ecosystems of specialised tools that can adapt as needs change. Welcome to a webinar on uses for big data in nuclear, a project performed within the Energiforsk programme Nuclear Safety Related I&C, ENSRIC.

Big data

Big data adoption in Nordic nuclear power plants is still at an early stage, but it is developing. As the Nordic nuclear sector undergoes digital transformation, new opportunities are emerging to improve safety, efficiency, and asset management through the use of big data.

In this webinar, Tommie Lindquist and Markus Eriksson from Rise present the new ENSRIC report Uses for big data in the Nordic nuclear power plants. They will a share an overview of the current state and future potential of big data applications in Nordic nuclear power plants. The work is based on literature reviews and interviews with industry experts, who share practical experiences from the nuclear sector as well as other safety-critical industries. A key focus of the study is how digital solutions can help simplify and support everyday work in the nuclear industry.

The study identifies both technical and organisational requirements and provides practical recommendations for secure, scalable, and user-focused solutions tailored to the nuclear context. The results show that big data adoption is still in its early stages and highlight the value of focused pilot projects, such as predictive maintenance. Flexible tool ecosystems, strong data management, and active human involvement are identified as key factors for successful implementation and future progress.
