Inspection of Pipes in Leak Indication Systems

In this report, several methods for blockage detection were identified, including pneumatic volumetry, standing acoustic wave analysis, electromagnetic wave propagation, and mechanical probing. None of these methods are currently established for this specific purpose. However, all are considered to have technical potential, provided they are verified through practical validation testing.
The aim of this project was to identify potential methods for use in the Nordic nuclear power plants, and to define further development needs.

Inspection of Pipes in Leak Indication Systems
Leak indication systems can detect leakage from fuel pools early. These systems consist of long systems of pipes with very small diameters, which can lead to blockages which is very important to prevent. but finding methods for this is difficult due to the geometrical complexity. Therefore, this study examined possible methods for detecting and removing mineral blockages in narrow, embedded leak indication pipes with sharp bends.
