This report describes the most used ice control practices applied to hydroelectric generation in North America, with a special emphasis on practical considerations.

The subjects covered include the control of ice cover formation and decay, ice jamming, frazil ice at the water intakes, and their impact on the optimization of power generation and on the riparians.  A selected number of North American practical cases are documented.
