Torsional Vibrations in Steam Turbine Shaft Trains

| 2018:522 | Harald Breitbach
This report deals with torsional vibrations in shaft trains, describing possible root causes and existing vibrational design criteria.
bild 2018-522.jpg

A collection of practical experiences related to torsional vibrations in shaft trains is given. It also presents different kinds of measurement methods and deals with potential measurement & monitoring systems.

Furthermore, an overview on mitigation measures, which are divided in procedures and commercial systems, is given. Finally, a guide for conceptually detecting and solving torsional vibration problems is provided.

    Cavitation induced vibrations in valves

Cavitation and flow-induced vibrations in valves are critical issues in piping systems, particularly in nuclear power plants, where reliability and structural integrity are essential. These phenomena can lead to fatigue damage, erosion, and reduced operational safety.

Cavitation induced vibrations in orifice plates and a partially closed valve

This study aims to experimentally investigate flow-induced vibrations and cavitation in single-hole and multi-hole orifices and a partially closed Stafsjö valve. The goal is to provide experimental data for validating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models.
