Assessing Torsional Vibrations in Turbogenerators

| 2026:1208 | Rainer Nordmann, Technical university of Darmstadt
The purpose of this project is to present a clear description, how Torsional Vibrations of Turbogenerators can be assessed by means of modern Sensor- and Monitoring Technologies.
bild 2026-1208

An important result of the project is, that reliable assessment statements are only possible by combining the three Vibration Analysis tools of Theoretical Modeling, Numerical Analysis and Experimental Analysis. An important part for the Assessment is the Torsinal Vibration Monitoring system. The Monitoring system starts with the data acquisition, the signal conditioning and processing, followed by a feature extraction. The extracted features are then used for fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis, enabling a reliable assessment of the mechanical integrity and remaining lifetime of the turbogenerator shaft system. Besides existing Monitoring systems new developments based on Digital Twins are also treated in this report.

    Cavitation induced vibrations in valves

Cavitation and flow-induced vibrations in valves are critical issues in piping systems, particularly in nuclear power plants, where reliability and structural integrity are essential. These phenomena can lead to fatigue damage, erosion, and reduced operational safety.
