About the program

For twenty years, the program has been operated in collaboration between dam owners and Svenska kraftnät. The purpose and objectives of the program are:
To promote the development of dam safety through relevant and important development projects.
To promote knowledge and competence development in the field of dam safety.
To enable dam owners to maintain a sustainably high level of dam safety.
To follow international developments in the field and promote international collaborations.
To provide long-term support to the power industry's dam safety policy.
To support the continued development of industry guidelines (RIDAS).
Prioritized areas
The program's steering group has conducted strategic discussions on future needs and has identified five prioritized areas that the program primarily works on:
• Discharge safety.
• Aging dam facilities.
• Dam monitoring.
• Safety criteria and risk-informed approach.
• Preparedness and collaboration.
Steering group
The steering group of the Dam Safety Program directs the program's focus and initiates projects and other activities within the program. It is the steering group that makes decisions to carry out projects, actively monitors the progress of the projects, and approves final reports.
