Energiforsk I&C R&D program ENSRIC has commissioned UK consultancy Adelard to study the approach towards the use, licensing and justification of digital COTS products in nuclear applications. The scope of the study covers the nuclear industries of different countries, other non-nuclear safety-critical industries, and the approach laid out in arecently developed IAEA guide on the subject.
The findings were presented at this seminar, along with a number of invited distinguished international speakers that shared the approaches adopted by their organizations and lessons that have learned. The seminar included opportunities for discussion and sharing of lessons and good practices between representatives of different industries. Licensing is one of the challenges with COTS, this was discussed in a panel discussion with participants from regulators and licensees.
